Pink Elephant

The Tale of the Pink Elephant:

Legend has it that a rare Pink Elephant roams the coffee plantations of Burundi at dawn; its pink glow is said to come from gently caressing the coffee bushes with its trunk. Whether it is reality or fantasy - once you see it, you will never forget it.

Pink Elephant is our first Burundian coffee, so the selection and testing process was new to us. Like all of our "Curiosity Series" coffees, this one was produced in limited quantities, so once this production runs out, there will definitely be no more.

Even though this is a true light roasted African coffee with roasted apple-honey flavors, lively acids and a long finish, its caffeine content is no lower than our other coffees!

The box contains 10 Nespresso* compatible coffee capsules (299 HUF/pc).

The real story:

The Pink Elephant from the north of Burundi , from the Kiyonza region, from the hills surrounding Lake Rwanda. This is where the recently built Kiyonza washing station is located.

Local producers used to rely on occasional traveling buyers to sell their coffee. This meant they had no permanent partner or secure market, and their risk aversion affected the quality of their coffee. However, the modern Kiyonza processing plant has changed all that: farmers can sell freshly harvested, ripe coffee cherries immediately after picking, receive year-round professional support from the station’s specialists, and grow new seedlings in the nursery.

The region's abundant, very strong sunshine and the low precipitation create an ideal environment for dry (natural) processing, which results in coffees with a lively, characteristic flavor.

Our recommendation for coffee

Black: A pleasantly light, but not at all acidic espresso, with a long finish and a chocolatey aftertaste. When making it, be sure to use the short button (25-30 ml)!

With milk: Ideal for a morning cortado, we would say a 1:1 ratio (1 portion of coffee, 1 portions of milk), but two capsules + double milk will start your day off right! Try it without sugar too!

If you want something special: It's especially good for long coffee, so make a short espresso, then take the capsule out of the machine and pour hot water into the cup "empty" (be careful, it will be very hot). You'll get a much teaier, softer drink, while the taste remains the same!
