The Legend of the Samurai Cat
No one knows exactly when the Samurai Cat first appeared.
Some say he was born in a secluded mountain village in Japan. Others claim they first saw him in a pub in Újpest, where he sat at the counter all night, watching the coffee maker as if guarding an ancient secret.
We were told that long ago, on the outskirts of Újpest, there was a pub frequented only by those whose day had been too long (or their night too short). One evening, a snow-white kitten walked in. He didn't ask for milk, he didn't ask for tuna, he didn't rub against anyone's legs. He just jumped onto the counter.
The bartender placed a tiny cup in front of him. The cat sniffed it. He took a sip. Then he nodded with the satisfaction of a samurai who had finally found a worthy opponent. That's how it all began.
The Samurai Cat is particularly fond of coffee. Not necessarily because he needs it. He simply respects it.
He respects the thousands of kilometres a coffee bean travels. He respects the farmers, the roasters, the baristas. And most of all, he respects those who, half-asleep in the morning, find the coffee maker and manage to prepare the first Samurai Shoelace coffee of the day without anything exploding in the kitchen.
