Treat Selection: El Triunfo

For lovers of specialty espressos, a floral-chocolate-caramel Pink Bourbon coffee from Colombia

Oscar Alvarado's parents started growing coffee 30 years ago on their farm near the town of Charguayaco in the Huila region of Colombia. Oscar got involved at an early age, and thanks to him, they moved from "mass coffee" to specialty coffee . In 2007, the farm won the "Cup of Excellence" award, one of the highest honors for coffee growers in the region.

The El Triunfo farm covers just three hectares, where Oscar, his wife and two children grow 4 varieties of Arabica.

The box contains 10 Nespresso* compatible coffee capsules (249 HUF/pc).

Of the four varieties grown on the farm, the one we chosePink Bourbonthe most interesting, quitesoft,It has an almost filter-like taste and aroma. (Two competitors reached the finals of the 2023 World Barista Championship with Pink Bourbon coffee, one of them became world champion with this coffee variety).

The interesting thing about Pink Bourbon is that (although its exact origin is unknown), it first appeared in the 1980s in the Huila region of Colombia. It is probably a hybrid of Red and Yellow Bourbon, although recent genetic research has refuted this. An important characteristic, and one that greatly helps its spread, is that it is more resistant to pests than other varieties.much more resistantagainst the dreaded leaf rust.

The coffee is selected after the (strictly manual) harvest (only the denser beans are used), these are hulled and left to ferment for 20 hours.they are fermented dry, then twicewashingAfter that, they are dried on sun-protected beds for 18 days.

Our recommendation for coffee

In black:real Pink Bourbon! Spicy, sweet, sour, tea-like softness... Make it with the short button (25-30ml)

With milk:A very soft, yet spicy-sour coffee, it delivers the flavors beautifully even with a lot of milk, and is not overpowered by the milk. Try it without sugar!

If you want something special:Drink it black, without milk. Really! The Pink Bourbon variant is so special (and rare) that it's worth a try!
